Ice Cream, Unicorns, and Mailmans....God's Grace during Stress

Hi, Page Turner here! It has been 21 days since my last blog entry; that's three weeks to the day. Oops! Well, I'm writing now, so who cares? :) Here's the scoop: it's really late, (I've got to get up early) so I need to wrap it up. But tomorrow's blog post is going to include ice cream, calendars, a unicorn, a mailman, and poetry. Stay tuned....   The Lord is good. I am so stressed about school right now, and I'm not dealing with it very well. He's still in control, though. Even when I'm about to climb up the walls like Peanut, my cat, after a laser pointer, He's still there and He's my Father. He's working everything for good, and He's always with me. I just have a hard time remembering that. But Jesus won't ever leave me and pursues me everyday.  Speaking of remembering, tomorrow's blog post includes an elephant! (I'm just not sure how....)    Anyway, I've got to go!                ...

Skywalker

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away Ruled an evil regime And standing forlorn, and bent on one knee Was a boy on dark Tattoine The sky was faded blue, the homes and dwellings widespread He stood looking out at the two setting suns With a tilt of his shaggy blonde head A droid by his side, his boots on the ground His thoughts, scattered and far Should he go--should he stay? These thoughts still remained As his heart roamed through the stars

Flamingos!

Flamingos! Hey, Page Turner here again. So when I logged into my computer, I have a screensaver that changes each day. Today's was a beautiful picture of flamingos. Their tall, twig-slender legs, beautiful soft pink feathers, and elegantly curved neck was clearly visible in the shallow water. I think that God designed flamingos in such an amazing way! They are absolutely beautiful creatures, like a sunset with wings! Also, these exotic birds have amazing adaptions. Did you know that their long, long slender legs have really rough skin on them? They stand in salty water that would burn a human's skin clean off almost instantly, but they are unaffected because of their protection. Also, like penguins, both the parents help care for their egg, which they lay on a mound of mud in the middle of a lake. Also like penguins, they feed their young regurgitated meals. They are fast runners, slow fliers, and great runners. I think that God's amazing design is evident in these beautif...

Singing Stars

Hey, Page Turner here! I think science is so cool. There is so much to learn about creation. Did you know that blue whales way up to 100 tons? Or that stars 'sing' like whales? And that certain cave fish have adapted to be blind and colorless, because they don't need sight or camoflauge? From the Great Barrier Reef, to the swirling supernovas, we can see how the earth praises Jesus. God is so amazing and His creation brings glory to Him. I am so astounded that He is so creative and that the entire universe is crying out in praise to Him--and yet He made a way for us to have a personal relationship where we cry out, "Abba, Father!" God is so amazing!   I'll be back later with either a book review or video. See you later!                                                                           ...

Science!

Hey, Page Turner here. Here's my new category: Science! I think God is so amazing and His creativity and awesome power can be seen throughout creation. From the beauty of the singing of the humpback whales, to the power of an exploding volcano, to the soft falling of a long rain shower, we can see His design and praise and glorify Him. So excited! Hope to see you soon!                                                                                         ---page turner

The Happiest Millionaire

What's it like to be a millionaire, with a wife, two sons, a daughter, and a room full of alligators? To have your own boxing team that practises in your parlor (with your daughter being the star champ)? To top it all off, you live in  Philadelphia during the Victorian era, your daughter begins to date a young man bound as a automobile designer in Detroit, and your elderly mother picks a fight (of polite and genteel words) with the wealthy and distinguished lady downtown. What's that like?  Maybe you should ask Anthony Biddle, the kind, eccentric, and humorous millionaire who lives this life. Or, better yet, John Lawless, the young man who is the new Irish butler who seems to have an uncanny ability to talk to an unseen audience, have a cheerful, funny attitude, and more 'fortuneosity' than a leprechaun and a bushel of shamrocks combined. He tends to see more of the action than Anthony Biddle--and that's saying something!   Narrated occasionally by the cheer...

Summer

Hi, guys! Page Turner here again!  I don't know about you guys, but I've had a pretty good summer. I can't believe that its almost over! It's back to school, and work, and real life....   I recently went to the beach, which was pretty awesome. It was so pretty there, and we spent hours playing in the deep water, sitting on the beach, or walking up and down the sand. When we got back to our camper, everybody read---for three hours each day! Let's just say that we burned through a lot of books. See the list below!    Anyway, as much as I love summer, I'm super stoked for the semester to start. I know that sounds nuts, but I'm taking some awesome classes this year, and I'm glad for some structure and schedule.   Do you ever find yourself slipping into the Summer Blues? It happens a lot during the summer.  There's not a lot of responsibility and everybody starts to get bored. Unless you're one of those annoyingly incredible people who spend th...

Ant-Man: the Review

All Scott Lang wanted was to get to be a part of his daughters life. Unfortunately, after being released from jail, no one will give him a job. Scott's willing to work anywhere, as long as its legal, much to the distaste of his goofy friends, who have a new gig for him that's not exactly within the perimeters of the law. Scott explains to them that he did not rob, he burglared, and though it wasn't right, there was a difference. After he was laid off, he hacked into a company that was cheating people, and set things right, money-wise. Now, his friends want him to do another job, but he's not going to blow his chance to be more apart of Cassie's life.  When he realizes that that's never going to happen until he can provide money for his daughter, and that no one will hire him, Scott feels forced to relent. He and his goofy, well-meaning friends find an old house, and, using amazing cat-burglary and technological skills, Scott quickly and quietly breaks into th...

Starting Up in Summer

Hi, guys! Page Turner here! It's been a while since my last post, but I'm starting up again. Guess what! The seventeenth was the one year anniversary of my blog. Yeah! I hope that you've been having a good summer. Mine's been fantastic ! I got to go on a mission trip, have been swimming and canoeing, and have been writing, which is super fun. Also, I've got a new backdrop for my blog!  Anyway, I hope that you continue reading my blog, because I'm going to be writing a lot on it, with all this free time in summer. A lot has happened to me and some people I know lately, but now that its summer I have more time to blog. See you soon!                                                            ...

Disney World---From a Gal Who's Been There, Done That

Hi, Page Turner again! In case you haven't noticed, I love going to Disney World. Most people liked going to Disney World if they've been, but most people don't know the awesome, hidden wonders of the parks that take a bit of digging to find. Here's Page Turner's Guide to a Few Commonly Missed Attractions. Hope you have fun reading it!     Finding Nemo--the Musical: If you've ever seen the movie, are a fan of Broadway music, love beautiful costumes, or just want to get out of the heat, the Finding Nemo--the Musical attraction in Disney's Animal Kingdom is amazing. With a series of amazing Broadway-like songs, this play combines beautiful costumes and an amazing voice cast for an exciting, powerful play. It's totally worth seeing, and I even have the songs on my iPod! Mulch, Sweat, and Tears : This outdoor traveling band that plays in the Hollywood Studios can sing some cool beats. If you spot them (near the Star Wars attractions and the Muppets) m...

Arts and Entertainment

Hi, Page Turner here! It's the Page Turner Arts and Entertainment Post today. Yeah! Here goes.... Movies -- A lot of good movies are coming out this year, including Finding Dory and the Jungle Book. In case you haven't seen the previews, you should go do that now. I've got a few questions for the good folks who made Finding Dory. 1. Why does Hank the Octopus only have seven arms? 2. Why is Dory in a water sanitation center?! 3. Is it just me, or did the coral reef expand, like, a ton? Or did they move? 4. How long has it been since Finding Nemo? 5. Is Dory ever going to be able to regain her long term memory? Was she searching for her family when Marlin found her in the first movie, but he made her lose focus or forget? 6. Poor Marlin! First his son, now his friend.... There's my questions for that. I can't wait to see the new Jungle Book movie. From what I've seen from it's trailer, the animation is some of the best I've ever seen and the amazin...

Listen Up

Hey guys, I'm back! According to the Internet, April 12 is "Drop Everything and Read Day." I LOVE this day! I was thinking about stories. You know how people say, "Jesus is the most important thing in life?" To some people this doesn't make sense. To a lot of people, the Bible is just a story, and Jesus is just a character. Well, on "Drop Everything and Read Day," I'm here to tell you that Jesus is much more than just a character. He's God. He made me and He walks with me through life. He made you and He knows exactly who you are. He knows that you're reading this right now and He knows everything about you and what happened this morning and what's going to happen tonight. He also knows every sin you've committed, even sins you don't think are sins. Well, here's the deal. Jesus is more than a character. He's saved me from my sins, and He's saved other people I know. God doesn't just make people better---He sa...

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Hi, Page Turner here! I'm back for--guess what!--another book review. That's right, folks. Book reviews are now officially part of the blog and will be labeled under movie reviews. What's this one on? Just one of the greatest graphic novels of all time. Okay, so when I said 'graphic novel' I guess I should be more specific. According to the dictionary a graphic novel is "a novel in a comic strip format." This book combines pages with words with pages covered in beautiful drawings that tell a story almost as clearly as the aforesaid written pages do. If you haven't guessed it all ready, this is the story of "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." If this doesn't sound like your kind of book, does mystery, danger, an orphan kid living in a clock tower, an old man with a secret, the history and magic of movies, or a secret hidden in a metal automaton strike your fancy? Here's my review!                   ...

An Ode to My Mathbook

I've heard a lot of ode to math books....here's my own Dear math book, you've got too many problems Why give them all to me? You're not my best friend, I don't enjoy helping you Why do you have so many issues? You think that I'm smart, that I can solve your equations Here's one for you: Me + Doing math = frustration You're like a novel missing pages You give me variables I cannot solve I don't understand your logic Why do you need to know what a equals? Why do you want me to find out ratios? Sorry to hurt your feelings, but English>Math Math book, you have too many problems There are scores and scores of problems in your pages Why did you save them all for me? Why don't you try and solve them yourself? Don't you have a friend, my dear math book? Don't you have someone you can talk to? I don't know you, math book. This is our first year that we've known each other. I've been friends with other math bo...

Worry

I stand before the clocks again Inside the copper room And as I hear the ticking noise I can sense my doom My heart begins to panic As I see the hands Whirl around the gleaming faces Mocking all my plans "No time, no time!" The clocks all chime Swinging together In endless rhyme "You have no time To do what you must You will fail all And betray all their trust And what about the times You can't control it all Something will go wrong Someone will drop the ball You can control nothing So many things may fail And once you make a mistake Yours will be a lonely tale" I could think of many things Approaching in my life That could lead to heartache Embarrassment or strife And as I stood in the room The clocks stopped their chime The room was suddenly quiet I lost all count of time I realized the voice of the clocks Was, in fact, my own As I worried on my fears A practice too well known I stood in the room With the gleaming copper fa...

Girl Meets World Review

Hi, Page Turner here! I'm back after a mini vacation (aka, a busy weekend), and ready for more posts! Just a few nights ago, I finished the last episode of the first season of one of my favorite TV shows, Girl Meets World. If you've ever seen the 90's show, Boy Meets World, or you haven't seen either, have fun reading my post!       Boy Meets World followed the life of Cory Matthews as he grew up from a young middle-schooler, until he graduated from high school with his girlfriend Topanga and his best friend Shawn. Now he's married to his sweetheart Topanga and living in New York City with his five-year old son Auggie, and his thirteen-year old daughter Riley. Riley is a ray of innocent sunshine, ready to take on the world with her best friend (and the rebellious raincloud) Maya. Together, they brave the world and make new friends at school. Lucas is the handsome, chivalrous, and funny new student from Texas, and Farkle is the hilarious, outspoken, confident ge...

Let Zem Eat Cake! Part 2

Hi, guys! I'm back again with a little bit more knowledge about Marie Antoinette's famous line where she declared, "Let them eat cake." Actually, some sources say that she never said this phrase, that it was a rumor first started about a Spanish princess a few years before, and rumored about Marie and a few other royals after.     The point is, the French Revolution was a messy time. The king and queen were selfish, the people were violent, and no one knew what to do. It wasn't called the Reign of Terror for nothing! Looking from the future, you might say, "Why didn't they just give food to the people? They were right there and they had so much!" The royals acted barbarically toward their people in letting them starve, and you might say they ignored them. We might never fight in a real war, not even in a small battle, but don't we fight fights? Nobody wakes up and assumes there will be no conflict. Unless you have, like, zero human contact, not ...

Let Zem Eat Cake! Part 1

Hi, Page Turner here! This post is about cake. No, this isn't a food review or something like that. I'm going to talk about the French Revolution.    Wait! I saw you scroll down! It'll be fine, I'll make it interesting. Because, as we all know, history often is.     So the French Revolution started in 1789. Unlike the idyllic picture of a small French town in Beauty and the Beast, or the exciting City of Lights, France wasn't exactly a cool place to be. You know how French food is famous? You could kind of say the same thing in 1789. People are starving and there's no food. Meanwhile, King Louis XVI is having the time of his life eating cake, playing tennis, wearing silk and lace...you get the gist. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette his wife are living in splendor, while the people are out of their minds with hunger. Also, all of the other guys, the royalty that own pretty much all of the land, are living like millionaires. The American Revolution just happened a...
Hi, Page Turner here! You know, Broadway shows are the best. And guess what! I just read the  most AWESOME article ever! Disney's The Lion King on Broadway is going to be doing the show with actors---and real lions. Oh yeah! Why haven't they done this earlier? The lions are completely tamed, like circus lions, and have been trained to respond to basic hand signals. The directors of the Broadway Musical hit, The Lion King decided that these marvelous creatures would enhance the viewers experience of the timeless Disney classic. After the show, the handlers give a presentation about the lions and their natural habitats. I really want to go to New York so I can see this! Here's the full article from www.thelatestnewsdisney.com:                      "When Callie Peterson, the director of the Disney Broadway Musical, The Lion King, suggested that the show include actual lions along with the huma...

Time

I stand before the massive clocks Made of copper and gleaming bright And as the clocks begin to chime Their sides shine in the light With a loud tick, a grinding sound With a boom the hand slowly moves And as I stand there I can see The hand won't move when I choose Surrounded by small clocks And clocks that reach the floor I'm surrounded by old-fashioned pieces In a room without a door The sunlight comes from somewhere Softly into the room That would, otherwise have been, A ticking timeless tomb And as I watch the face Of an old clock on the wall My eyes fix on the clock And I begin to fall I'm in a swirl of color Of memories, of light As the world is spinning In fractures of day and night Sound and music blur the air Ribbons of color are free And suddenly, as I stand there I see my life before me Each second is flying by I see the choices I've made The acts I've done throughout my life In Technicolor display When the whirling stops,...
