Biscuit Battle

Hi, everyone! Page Turner here. Okay I know it's been a while since my last Monthly Food Entry, so here it is for August. Bon appetite!               Imagine this: you're on the road, feeling lonely and so cold...not to mention hungry. You're stomach is rumbling and you need a little treat. If you're going to treat yourself you might as well do it right, so you decide for biscuits. But where? Bonjangles or Hardees? How do you know which one is better? Ah, dear reader, that is where I come in. Okay, so that's exactly what happened today and I have done scientific research, complete with pictures, to prove which is better. (In my personal, biased opinion...)                It started with Bojangles. We drove into the drive through and ordered two steak biscuits for 6.99. We were starving and once we bit into them, we were happy, but not satisfied. We ate a bit, then folded it back up, our hunger for a good biscuit unmet. The biscuit was too doughy and heavy and ther

No Strings Attatched

"I've got no strings to hold me down, to make me fret, to make me frown!" sang little Pinocchio as he danced glibly around the stage, string-less and worry-less, as the other puppets look sadly on, connected by strings like true marionettes. Maybe you recognize this scene from the 1945 Disney Pinocchio movie. For some reason, that made me think about our strings. I think we pride ourselves to be like Pinocchio: chipper, happy, and totally independent (although not quite as wooden.) Well, in reality, we are totally dependent on God. Our talents, our future, our past, our present, and our circumstances are all in the hand's of God. Sure, our decisions change things, but God's in control; nothing we do happens without Him planning it. Good grief, we don't even control our body! You can't tell your cells to burn glucose to give you energy, or your heart to beat, or your stomach juices to digest the food. (Say it with me, eww . Very good.) But God looks after u

Rocks and Socks

Hi, it's me again! I realize I forgot to mention my beloved dog, Fox! Here's the scoop...                   Our story began one fateful day, as we set out to our state's capital to get our new golden retriever puppy. On the way, list of names were made and debated until we decided upon just a few out of forty. When we arrived at the breeder, low and behold, there was a huge wire cage with four of the cutest golden retriever puppies. Three wore collars and were content with eating their dry dog kibble, but the collar-less fourth one (the most golden and cute of them all) saw us and went berserk. She jumped at her cage, her tail wagging and her ears back. The breeder let them out and the three ambled off, but the fourth one stayed with us, licking and jumping and wagging her tail. And so our journey began.....                 The journey consisted of getting up every four hours at night for three months, to let her out to do her business. Fox was an energetic puppy, boundin

Lights, Camera, Action!

Okay, quick! Think of your three favorite quotes. Chances are, they probably came from a movie, maybe a book. But probably a movie, right? Movies impact us a lot. Think of the Hunger Games. You can never think of eating pita bread without smiling, can you? Or how about Star Wars? If someone says, "It's gonna take a lot of force to move this," you immediately start humming the Darth Vader song, right? Or how about if someone started saying, "Do you want to-", I bet you finish it with "...build a snowman?" I've had that one happen to me a lot. Anyway, the point is, movies affect us. But some movies aren't all so good, and some even put bad language, images, or songs into our heads. Of course, there are a lot of good ones, like the majority of Disney and Dreamworks, along with other movie companies. I think there are some awesome Christian movies out there right now, but there hasn't been a good, quality C.G.I animated Christian film. Even Veg

My Little Report on Norway

" Norway, a land of adventure!" These familiar words start the beginning of Walt Disney World's Norwegian ride, Maelstrom, an indoor boat trip that explores Norway, the Vikings, and common folklore. Sadly, this ride is going to be replaced by a Frozen ride and construction has already been started. I was so excited to go to the Norway Pavilion, because I am a Viking nut, but when we got there, it was mostly inhabited by Frozen paraphernalia. Now don't get me wrong; I love Frozen as much as the next, have seen the movie over and over, and sing the songs daily in the shower, but it was a big disappointment to find the buildings dedicated to Norway's culture taken over by this new animated movie. Anyway, this blog wasn't supposed to be about Disney, it was supposed to be about Norway! In case you've ever been to the Norway Pavilion, seen Frozen and wondered about the country that inspired Arendelle, or have just been curious about Vikings, here's this p

Inside Out: The Review

Page Turner here. I just realized that I never gave an official Inside Out review. How dare I! Especially with it being Pixar’s 15 th movie…Hope you enjoy it! (Possible Spoiler Alert) What if those voices inside of your head where more than just voices? Meet Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, the emotions of tween Riley. It’s been a hard year for Riley and her family; they had a good life back in Minnesota. She had her familiar house, her friends, her hockey team. They moved though, and Joy is determined to make it the best year for Riley, instead of the hardest. But Sadness is making that kind of hard…Joy is the head gal, the CEO of emotions if you will, and the little ray of emotional sunshine makes sure Riley never gets hurt, but with all these other emotions running around, it’s hard for her to concentrate. Everything was running smoothly when Joy first came to Riley. It was perfect. But then Sadness came along, and the reset followed suit. But now, as school starts

Home: The Review

Page Turner here. I just watched the new Dreamworks movie, Home. Here's my review!      ( Possible spoiler alert)   It all begins with the Boovs; a friendly alien civilization who make a living running away. Their motto is to run away from danger, and they excel at that. The entire Boov colony takes over Earth, thinking that they are doing us lowly, primitive humans a favor. The humans are moved to Australia and the Boovs move in. Oh, a highly optimistic and somewhat accident prone Boov, couldn't be more excited about the move to earth. The problem? Nobody else is excited that Oh even exist, but that hardly dampers his enthusiasm. In a moment of highly optimistic determination, Oh tries to send an email to a fellow Boov, but accidentally hits send all. As in, send to the entire galaxy...even the dreaded enemies the Boovs were trying to run away from in the first place. Now Oh must try to escape from his peers, who are angry at him for always making mistakes. He joins up with a
