An Ode to My iPod

iPod, it was a normal day. You've been my friend for so long, I thought you'd be okay. It was sunny, like normal. Nothing seemed wrong. You gave me music to run to. Suddenly, the sky broke open. I didn't think anything of it. I'm sorry, poor iPod! You kept giving music to the end I laid you beside the computer and went on my way But then! You wouldn't work, dear iPod. Oh, my distress! What happened? Did water get into your heart? Oh, iPod! I can no longer listen to you as I run. Exercise will be mundane. Late nights of listening to audiobooks are history. Dear, iPod, I miss you. I've done all I can for you. The Basmati rice isn't helping draw out the water. Is there hope? Are you dead, dear iPod? Or will you awake? Running hasn't been the same without you, iPod. There's not any music in life. Wake up, little grey iPod. If nothing works, I shall have to say good-bye. I may have to get another iPod... But it won't be t

Disney World---From a Gal Who's Been There, Done That

Hi, Page Turner again! In case you haven't noticed, I love going to Disney World. Most people liked going to Disney World if they've been, but most people don't know the awesome, hidden wonders of the parks that take a bit of digging to find. Here's Page Turner's Guide to a Few Commonly Missed Attractions. Hope you have fun reading it!     Finding Nemo--the Musical: If you've ever seen the movie, are a fan of Broadway music, love beautiful costumes, or just want to get out of the heat, the Finding Nemo--the Musical attraction in Disney's Animal Kingdom is amazing. With a series of amazing Broadway-like songs, this play combines beautiful costumes and an amazing voice cast for an exciting, powerful play. It's totally worth seeing, and I even have the songs on my iPod! Mulch, Sweat, and Tears : This outdoor traveling band that plays in the Hollywood Studios can sing some cool beats. If you spot them (near the Star Wars attractions and the Muppets) m

Arts and Entertainment

Hi, Page Turner here! It's the Page Turner Arts and Entertainment Post today. Yeah! Here goes.... Movies -- A lot of good movies are coming out this year, including Finding Dory and the Jungle Book. In case you haven't seen the previews, you should go do that now. I've got a few questions for the good folks who made Finding Dory. 1. Why does Hank the Octopus only have seven arms? 2. Why is Dory in a water sanitation center?! 3. Is it just me, or did the coral reef expand, like, a ton? Or did they move? 4. How long has it been since Finding Nemo? 5. Is Dory ever going to be able to regain her long term memory? Was she searching for her family when Marlin found her in the first movie, but he made her lose focus or forget? 6. Poor Marlin! First his son, now his friend.... There's my questions for that. I can't wait to see the new Jungle Book movie. From what I've seen from it's trailer, the animation is some of the best I've ever seen and the amazin

Listen Up

Hey guys, I'm back! According to the Internet, April 12 is "Drop Everything and Read Day." I LOVE this day! I was thinking about stories. You know how people say, "Jesus is the most important thing in life?" To some people this doesn't make sense. To a lot of people, the Bible is just a story, and Jesus is just a character. Well, on "Drop Everything and Read Day," I'm here to tell you that Jesus is much more than just a character. He's God. He made me and He walks with me through life. He made you and He knows exactly who you are. He knows that you're reading this right now and He knows everything about you and what happened this morning and what's going to happen tonight. He also knows every sin you've committed, even sins you don't think are sins. Well, here's the deal. Jesus is more than a character. He's saved me from my sins, and He's saved other people I know. God doesn't just make people better---He sa

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Hi, Page Turner here! I'm back for--guess what!--another book review. That's right, folks. Book reviews are now officially part of the blog and will be labeled under movie reviews. What's this one on? Just one of the greatest graphic novels of all time. Okay, so when I said 'graphic novel' I guess I should be more specific. According to the dictionary a graphic novel is "a novel in a comic strip format." This book combines pages with words with pages covered in beautiful drawings that tell a story almost as clearly as the aforesaid written pages do. If you haven't guessed it all ready, this is the story of "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." If this doesn't sound like your kind of book, does mystery, danger, an orphan kid living in a clock tower, an old man with a secret, the history and magic of movies, or a secret hidden in a metal automaton strike your fancy? Here's my review!                      Hugo Cabret lived a good life. He ha

Emily of New Moon---a Book Review

Hi, Page Turner here again! I've been pretty busy over the past few days, but I've had time to read one of my new favorite book series by L.M. Montgomery.      When you first hear that name, you either think, "Anne of Green Gables," or "Who is that?" For those who thought the latter, she wrote the "Anne of Green Gables" series, one of the best book series ever. I, however, have not been reading this series, since I read almost all of them last fall for the second time. I'm reading "Emily of New Moon."    "Emily of New Moon" is the story of Emily Byrd Starr, a young, innocent girl whose imaginations into the fairyland of Prince Edwards Island makes her older than her years. Her peaceful life with her father in the old house they live in is brought to a sweet and tragic end when Douglas Starr 'lifts the curtain' and leaves Emily an orphan. When Aunt Elizabeth, the strict and hard head of the Murray family and the sis

An Ode to My Mathbook

I've heard a lot of ode to math books....here's my own Dear math book, you've got too many problems Why give them all to me? You're not my best friend, I don't enjoy helping you Why do you have so many issues? You think that I'm smart, that I can solve your equations Here's one for you: Me + Doing math = frustration You're like a novel missing pages You give me variables I cannot solve I don't understand your logic Why do you need to know what a equals? Why do you want me to find out ratios? Sorry to hurt your feelings, but English>Math Math book, you have too many problems There are scores and scores of problems in your pages Why did you save them all for me? Why don't you try and solve them yourself? Don't you have a friend, my dear math book? Don't you have someone you can talk to? I don't know you, math book. This is our first year that we've known each other. I've been friends with other math bo

Worry

I stand before the clocks again Inside the copper room And as I hear the ticking noise I can sense my doom My heart begins to panic As I see the hands Whirl around the gleaming faces Mocking all my plans "No time, no time!" The clocks all chime Swinging together In endless rhyme "You have no time To do what you must You will fail all And betray all their trust And what about the times You can't control it all Something will go wrong Someone will drop the ball You can control nothing So many things may fail And once you make a mistake Yours will be a lonely tale" I could think of many things Approaching in my life That could lead to heartache Embarrassment or strife And as I stood in the room The clocks stopped their chime The room was suddenly quiet I lost all count of time I realized the voice of the clocks Was, in fact, my own As I worried on my fears A practice too well known I stood in the room With the gleaming copper fa

Girl Meets World Review

Hi, Page Turner here! I'm back after a mini vacation (aka, a busy weekend), and ready for more posts! Just a few nights ago, I finished the last episode of the first season of one of my favorite TV shows, Girl Meets World. If you've ever seen the 90's show, Boy Meets World, or you haven't seen either, have fun reading my post!       Boy Meets World followed the life of Cory Matthews as he grew up from a young middle-schooler, until he graduated from high school with his girlfriend Topanga and his best friend Shawn. Now he's married to his sweetheart Topanga and living in New York City with his five-year old son Auggie, and his thirteen-year old daughter Riley. Riley is a ray of innocent sunshine, ready to take on the world with her best friend (and the rebellious raincloud) Maya. Together, they brave the world and make new friends at school. Lucas is the handsome, chivalrous, and funny new student from Texas, and Farkle is the hilarious, outspoken, confident genius

Let Zem Eat Cake! Part 2

Hi, guys! I'm back again with a little bit more knowledge about Marie Antoinette's famous line where she declared, "Let them eat cake." Actually, some sources say that she never said this phrase, that it was a rumor first started about a Spanish princess a few years before, and rumored about Marie and a few other royals after.     The point is, the French Revolution was a messy time. The king and queen were selfish, the people were violent, and no one knew what to do. It wasn't called the Reign of Terror for nothing! Looking from the future, you might say, "Why didn't they just give food to the people? They were right there and they had so much!" The royals acted barbarically toward their people in letting them starve, and you might say they ignored them. We might never fight in a real war, not even in a small battle, but don't we fight fights? Nobody wakes up and assumes there will be no conflict. Unless you have, like, zero human contact, not

Let Zem Eat Cake! Part 1

Hi, Page Turner here! This post is about cake. No, this isn't a food review or something like that. I'm going to talk about the French Revolution.    Wait! I saw you scroll down! It'll be fine, I'll make it interesting. Because, as we all know, history often is.     So the French Revolution started in 1789. Unlike the idyllic picture of a small French town in Beauty and the Beast, or the exciting City of Lights, France wasn't exactly a cool place to be. You know how French food is famous? You could kind of say the same thing in 1789. People are starving and there's no food. Meanwhile, King Louis XVI is having the time of his life eating cake, playing tennis, wearing silk and lace...you get the gist. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette his wife are living in splendor, while the people are out of their minds with hunger. Also, all of the other guys, the royalty that own pretty much all of the land, are living like millionaires. The American Revolution just happened a
Hi, Page Turner here! You know, Broadway shows are the best. And guess what! I just read the  most AWESOME article ever! Disney's The Lion King on Broadway is going to be doing the show with actors---and real lions. Oh yeah! Why haven't they done this earlier? The lions are completely tamed, like circus lions, and have been trained to respond to basic hand signals. The directors of the Broadway Musical hit, The Lion King decided that these marvelous creatures would enhance the viewers experience of the timeless Disney classic. After the show, the handlers give a presentation about the lions and their natural habitats. I really want to go to New York so I can see this! Here's the full article from www.thelatestnewsdisney.com:                      "When Callie Peterson, the director of the Disney Broadway Musical, The Lion King, suggested that the show include actual lions along with the human actors, everyone knew that it was either madness or brilliance.
