A Force Awakens

Steam spurts up from the dark room as the Storm Troopers force Han Solo over the metal walkways, down toward the machine that will freeze him in carbonite. As they force him down the steps, Princess Leia follows behind, flanked by two guards with the captive Chewy not to far behind. Since the trip, passionate and headstrong Princess Leia falls in love with the suave smuggler Han Solo who helps her and her friends against the Empire. Now, in the dark room, they both know that he might not survive being frozen in carbonite. In their final last moments together, Princess Leia finally brings herself to say something she's been wanting to say for a long time. "I love you," she tells Han Solo. Han Solo looks into her eyes. "I know."      What?! I know? I don't been to be harsh or anything, but that's the best you've got, Han Solo. You're about to die, for Pete's sake, and your one true love tells you that she loves you and you answer, "I kno

The Good Dinosaur

Hi, Page Turner again! In case you were wondering, I had a blast on Valentine's Day and I'm now back for a brand-new movie review! Today, I was able to watch the Good Dinosaur and was left with feelings of Jurassic proportions...   The Good Dinosaur starts out with incredible CGI landscapes inspired by the Wyoming mountains, as a green dinosaur couple looks over their three eggs that are starting to hatch, in a moment akin to the very beginning of Finding Nemo. Each of the eggs hatch out three young dinosaurs, but Arlo is the very smallest of his family. As the summers pass and the farming family grows, Arlo's brother and sister place their footprints on the side of their corn silo, besides their parents, indicating they've 'made a mark' on the world. Everybody in his family has one except Arlo; everything in life scares him. His kind Papa tries one day to help Arlo prove his bravery and earn his mark by capturing and destroying the critter that eats from their

I've Lost Count of Days...Technically Day 10

Hey, Page Turner again! I haven't exactly been consistent in my Valentine's Day Countdown, but I got a cold. And it's my blog. :) Anyway, I just noticed there are a lot  of holidays in February. You've got Nation Freedom Day, Groundhog Day, Family Day, Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Valentine's Day, and Presidents Day. Yikes! And there aren't any in January! Oh, you also have the Super Bowl, a day all its own in the hearts of Americans. You have your football lovers, your football haters, and your commercial fans. I happen to be a commercial fan. Oh, I'm all for the gathering around the TV, eating nachos and mac n cheese, and spearing paint in intimidating bars across your face, but when it comes to actually watching the game, I'm not as interested. That's why there's commercials! The best commercials this year were the Prius, the Dorito, and the GPS locating device for a car. In the Prius, a band of goofy and seemingly friends run

Day 13

Page Turner here, back for day 13. Here's my review on Woodlawn--MAJOR spoiler alerts ahead!       The thump of the wooden crutch echoes through the high school gym, loud in the otherwise silent room. A team of football players sat comfortably slumped on the bleachers; it was 1973 in Birmingham, Alabama and the team was having a hard time accepting integration. Coach Gerelds, at his wits end from the violence allowed Hank Erwin, a visiting chaplain to speak to his team. Hank stood in front of the boys and paused. Then he began to speak. An hour later, the entire team had given their lives to God, Coach Gerelds told his wife in disbelief the next night. How was that possible? Although he didn't understand, he saw a change in the way his teammates played, and the way they acted toward one another. An African-American player, Tony Nathan, soon got to know Coach Gerelds, and even invited him to a Bible study. Gerelds declined, but Tony never stopped going, along with the rest of t

Day 14

Me again! Well Valentine's Day is almost here and I just read the cutest story in the Clubhouse magazine. For all of you who don't know what that is...look it up. You're on a computer anyway, and I'll wait. You back? Okay, good. So it's about a newly engaged couple from the Adventures in Odyssey series, Wooton and Penny. Wooton is a sweet, wacky, friendly mailman born in Alaska with a love for God, licorice, and Powerboy comics (which he happens to write.) Penny is a kind, slightly-naive artist with a passion for God, vegetarian Tuesdays, and knit beanies. Altogether, it's a perfect match and they're truly happy...until they visit Penny's parents a few days before Valentine's Day. Wooton is impressed by Penny's father's romantic gifts for his wife, and he tries in vain to think of something just as sweet for his own soulmate. Meanwhile, Penny wants to show Wooton around town where she grew up...but things aren't exactly the same. The play

Day 15

Hey, Page Turner here! This is day 15 in my countdown to Valentine's Day! Finally, the days of January are almost over and the light of February has begun. I mean, seriously. February has about nine holidays, and sometimes snow. Also, you get pounds of candy, hearts, and a visit from a groundhog who can predict weather. How cool is that?! But January stinks. It's right after the joy of Christmas, the long awaited day, the gingerbread cookies, and snowmen, and caroling. Then comes January, the month of grey skies and stark grey trees. Everything is grey upon grey, with bitter cold and wet, slushy sidewalks. But now...! Now it's February, the month of love, chocolate, and groundhogs! The month of pink, stuffed animals, and friendship, the month of blue skies, budding, frosted grasses, and birds coming back. February is the month of hope, after the world is encased in winter! (Okay, so that's a bit dramatic, but you get the gist. January: bad, February: good.) I've bee
