A Force Awakens

Steam spurts up from the dark room as the Storm Troopers force Han Solo over the metal walkways, down toward the machine that will freeze him in carbonite. As they force him down the steps, Princess Leia follows behind, flanked by two guards with the captive Chewy not to far behind. Since the trip, passionate and headstrong Princess Leia falls in love with the suave smuggler Han Solo who helps her and her friends against the Empire. Now, in the dark room, they both know that he might not survive being frozen in carbonite. In their final last moments together, Princess Leia finally brings herself to say something she's been wanting to say for a long time. "I love you," she tells Han Solo. Han Solo looks into her eyes. "I know."
What?! I know? I don't been to be harsh or anything, but that's the best you've got, Han Solo. You're about to die, for Pete's sake, and your one true love tells you that she loves you and you answer, "I know?" Although characteristically Hans, the smuggler needs a few manners from Chewy. An "Auurgghhiegh!" would be better than that. Princess Leia does get him back in the next movie, when they're on Endor, fighting off the Empire from a control plant. As they duck behind the wall, a robot starts blasting at them. "I've got this!" Leia shouts, and pulls out her laser gun, shooting down the droid. Hans Solo grins at her. "I love you," he says. Princess Leia smiles back. "I know."
Okay, so it is pretty sweet, especially since Princess Leia chose not to be offended by his somewhat....strange comeback. Most of us would agree that if your boyfriend or girlfriend said, "I know," after you've declared your undying love and devotion for them, you'd be pretty miffed, if not to mention hurt. But don't we do the same thing? God says, "I love you. Even when you didn't deserve it, when you deserved death and were in no way good, I sent My Son to pay your penalty, to make you alive, to make you My child. I love you with unending love, not based on your performance, but because you are Mine. You are holy in My sight because of the blood of My Son and I will never leave you or forsake you." Sometimes we say, "I love you, Lord!" Sometimes we simply say, "I know." May God create in us a heart that never stops being amazed at His holiness and love! May we never become cold to this amazing gift! Pray that God will increase your love for Him, and that we may grow in our knowledge of Him. Even if it worked for Hans Solo to say, "I know", it doesn't work for us. So this week, remember two things: God cares about you and....always let the Wookie win.

An Ode to My iPod: Part 2

iPod, you were in your plastic baggy I stared at you as I cleaned the kitchen How broken you were! The rice could not fix you, it seemed A friend suggested I get a new one Replace you, dear iPod? I had no other choice! You've been with me through a lot, dear iPod Through my first couple basketball games Through that terrible thunderstorm I listened to you during my sad times I played you when I was happy Your music reminded me of good memories Why, wonderful iPod, why did I let you get wet? It was such an innocent thunderstorm I held you as I listened to your song But was it for the last time? I listened to you as we drove long miles Your ability to store music astounds me So many memories are in those songs! My little iPod, you played as we grouted the porch You were beside me in the late nights when I couldn't sleep You lie on my pillow, supplying me with audio as I draw Dear little iPod, your music kept me running I guess I shall have to say good-bye,...

The Giver

Hi, Page Turner here again! I am here again to write about my next book on the 30 day journey of 15 Fiction Books Every Person Should Read (a book every two days). I think that books are a blessing God has given us to love Him more, be creative, and be inspired. I love reading, and hope you enjoy these books!       Yesterday's book was  The Boy in the Striped Pajamas . Today, I'll be writing about  The Giver.  I read this book in 9th grade and was completely immersed in Jonas' world. While I understood the deeper allegory behind this deeply-stirring book, it wasn't until this year that God fully connected the dots I had read in  The Giver.   This book has deeply affected my life-- I hope you enjoy this book review, and give  The Giver  a try sometime this summer!                                               ...

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Book 1

Hi, all! Page Turner here! I hope you are having a great summer! I like to read a lot, and one of my very favorite books is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. While a sad book, it is one of those works of literature that you feel has profoundly changed your life. I hope you enjoy this first review, and read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas  sometime this summer!                                              The Boy in the Striped Pajamas--A Review                 The horrible events of the past seem like horrors that will never be repeated in the present. After all, the world must have learned its lesson concerning different atrocities. People join in with author John Boyne as he writes,“Of course all this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever h...
