Follow Your Heart. Iconic phrase. I've seen it on necklaces, bags, heard it in movies, and seen companies and books based around this one phrase. I never thought about it until my youth group had a ten week long game every Sunday called, "Faulty Phrase." We had to find quotes, phrases, or video clips that had a truth and a lie in each one. Welcome to Page Turner's Faulty Phrases!
1. Follow Your Heart. The Bible makes it clear that without God, the heart is wicked. If we follow our heart without Him living in it, we will always make horrible decisions. On the flip side, if God is living in your heart, listen to Him always. (you know I've never seen a necklace that says, 'follow your heart...to death and destruction. It just doesn't sell.)
2. If it makes you feel good, do it. I want to know who wrote this. It's catchy, and very appealing. But a lot of the time, sin can feel good, otherwise no one would do it. But as Christians, we follow God, and not ourselves so this is most certainly a Faulty Phrase. On the other hand, if someone is trying to entice you to do something wrong, and the Holy Spirit is telling you no and you feel bad about doing it...don't.
Anyway, there's a glimpse of the game. Think of some other common phrases you've heard, and question them, using the Bible. You'd be surprised how many phrases are faulty! Have fun!
