Hey, Page Turner here! Back for day 20 in my countdown to Valentine's Day. There is a lot of romance movies out there. One of my personal favorites is Princess Bride. (spoiler alerts ahead) I mean, come on. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." It doesn't get much better than that, does it?! Princess Bride is a humorous romance complete with a kidnapped princess, shrieking eels, giants, sword fights, Miracle Max, betrayal, and a dashing hero. The best part is the entire story is read by a grandpa to his sick grandchild, a young kid with a cynical sense of humor and boyish distaste for romance. The movie follows the love story of Buttercup and Wesley, two peasants who are madly in love. Their story is cut short when Wesley dies at the hand of the Dread Pirate Robertson, and Buttercup is given to the prince to marry. As the days count down to her wedding day, Buttercup is kidnapped by a Spaniard swordsman, a kind-hearted giant, and a self-proclaimed genius. After Buttercup is saved by a man dressed in black who reveals himself to be Wesley, they must escape from the captors and the prince's search party by heading into the Fire Swamp complete with R.O.U.S.'s (Rodents Of Unusual Size.) After a series of extremely unfortunate events, Wesley is near death and Buttercup is forced to marry Prince Humperdink. The Spaniard swordsman and the kind-hearted giant must save Wesley and join him to rescue Buttercup before it's too late. It's a classic story, with a heart-felt ending and a sweet surprise. I love this movie, and I think that everyone would agree that Wesley is an awesome hero. I mean, come on! He saves Buttercup from sand, fire, and a man-eating rodent, practically comes back from the dead for 'true love', and delivers witty comebacks to some rather nasty villains, all because he loves Buttercup. But true love isn't always this heroic, or this flashy. True love to family, friends, or sweethearts can be sweetly sappy, and happily sweet, but sometimes it's simple, like sharing the last piece of chocolate, not complaining about a pet peeve, or actually paying attention when someone's talking. I love how a pastor put it once, "Love is anything that points others to Christ." Seriously, what could be better for that person? Jesus is the best thing of all! Sometimes you have to show love to others by refraining to do something. I heard once that gossiping actually hinders people from loving that person, even if it's just your own opinion and you're just 'venting'. Love can be talking with a someone you don't know all that well, and actually asking questions, actually wanting to know more about them so you can pray for them. Either way, love can be shown in many forms. So celebrate Valentine's Day by showing love to others, watching Princess Bride, and eating chocolate! (Sorry, chocolate's still an obsession :) Now go, and have fun showing love to others. I mean it! Do you want a peanut?
