Day 22

Hey hey hey! Page Turner here, back for day number 22 in my countdown to Valentine's Day! I love the sweet tradition of gift giving
to the special person in your life. Here's some fun things I found!
Okay, so if you go to www.buzzfeed.com and look for 40 DIY
valentine gifts, you can find really cute crafts just like this romantic tic tac box. I love the other crafts: get a Coco Cola box filled with coke and decorated  with stiff red paper and hearts. Fill candy up in vintage muslin bags, make coasters out of round wood slices with you and your sweethearts initials on them, or give them a jar of lemon drops that says 'Pucker Up.". Create valentine-inspired marshmallow pops, or Sharpie decorated mugs that say "I love you a latte" and "You're my cup of tea." Also, sweet treats can't be beat. (especially if they contain chocolate. Any chocolate, just chocolate, please.) At www.allrecipes.com, you can find pastry 'love letters', a million heart-shaped cookies, a heart-shaped pizza covered in red pepperoni, and heart macaroons, plus decadent desserts like chocolate truffles, stuffed strawberries, and cheesecake. Throw in a ton of stuffed animal options, flowers, and actual valentines, and you've got millions of options for Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day celebrates love: both the love we have for others, and gift of love from God. God is what allows us to love others--and not just our friends or sweethearts, but our family and peers we don't always agree with. Remember, even if it's simple or seems annoying, it's still love just like a rose would smell as sweet by any other name. (Okay, so that analogy doesn't even fit, but you get the gist. I love flowers!) Anyway, have fun on Valentine's Day and I hope you can use these ideas I've gathered from other websites. P.S. if anyone I know is reading this I really like chocolate. Just a hint! I hope you guys have a great day!

Books, Books, Books...

Hi, Page Turner here! Okay, so if the start of this high school year as been anything, it has  not  been boring due to lack of books to read. Here's a list of my favorite books, (in no particular order) that I've read since August!     1. "Bud, Not Buddy." This is book filled with humor and pathos and narrated by a ten-year old street-savvy kid in the Great Depression. After loosing his mom when he was six, he is moved to an orphanage. After a series of events, he finds himself alone on the road. But Bud has a secret--he thinks he knows who is father is, and he sets out to find him. This heart-warming story shows the heart of young boy, the mind of a hardened man, and the importance of family. 8/10! 2. "City of Ember Trilogy" Okay, so actually it's a quartet, but I've never liked the "Prophet of Yunwood" anyway. This series follows the events after a devastating world war that caused fire, starvation, and disease; a war that nearly wiped...

An Ode to My iPod: Part 2

iPod, you were in your plastic baggy I stared at you as I cleaned the kitchen How broken you were! The rice could not fix you, it seemed A friend suggested I get a new one Replace you, dear iPod? I had no other choice! You've been with me through a lot, dear iPod Through my first couple basketball games Through that terrible thunderstorm I listened to you during my sad times I played you when I was happy Your music reminded me of good memories Why, wonderful iPod, why did I let you get wet? It was such an innocent thunderstorm I held you as I listened to your song But was it for the last time? I listened to you as we drove long miles Your ability to store music astounds me So many memories are in those songs! My little iPod, you played as we grouted the porch You were beside me in the late nights when I couldn't sleep You lie on my pillow, supplying me with audio as I draw Dear little iPod, your music kept me running I guess I shall have to say good-bye,...

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Hi, Page Turner here! I'm back for--guess what!--another book review. That's right, folks. Book reviews are now officially part of the blog and will be labeled under movie reviews. What's this one on? Just one of the greatest graphic novels of all time. Okay, so when I said 'graphic novel' I guess I should be more specific. According to the dictionary a graphic novel is "a novel in a comic strip format." This book combines pages with words with pages covered in beautiful drawings that tell a story almost as clearly as the aforesaid written pages do. If you haven't guessed it all ready, this is the story of "The Invention of Hugo Cabret." If this doesn't sound like your kind of book, does mystery, danger, an orphan kid living in a clock tower, an old man with a secret, the history and magic of movies, or a secret hidden in a metal automaton strike your fancy? Here's my review!                   ...
