24 Day Countdown (Until Valentine's Day!)

Hey, Page Turner here! Valentine's day is so soon! I don't know about you, but Valentine's Day is kind of a big deal on the pageturner411 blog. Flowers, roses, sappy phrases, and even sappier Hallmark movies! I mean, I've heard that Valentine's Day is a scam, created by the greeting card company in cahoots with the candy stores. I've also heard its about St. Valentine--I'm still a little fuzzy on the story. There's a ton of variations. Even with all of the uncertainties surrounding Valentine's Day, it's a great day to share God's love to others. Valentine's Day is ultimately about God. God is love, and He is the one who gave the greatest gift of love: His son who offers redemption and forgiveness. Love to each other is showing our friends Christ. And I think the sweetest part of marriage is when you can follow the Lord together. So find someone, tell them you love them, and eat lots, and lots of chocolate. Here's a couple lovely pieces of Valentine's Day trivia...
        1. On February 14th in Japan, women give men gifts. On March 14th, known as White Day, the men return the favor with gifts like white chocolate and flowers.
       2. Friends and family to not usually get each other gifts for Valentine's Day in Italy.
        Just in the U.S....
      3. $448 million spent on candy the Valentine's Day week
      4. $8.6 million for sparkling wine for Valentine's Day
      5. 58 million pounds of chocolate each year
      6.  36 million heart-shaped boxes
      7. Men spend about 150 dollars, and women about 75 for gifts.
      8. 62% of adults say they celebrate Valentine's Day
      9. 23% say they buy flowers for Valentine's Day
     10. Europe embraces exchanging Valentine's in 1600s.
I got most of these facts from www.history.org if you want to check out more! Have a lovely Valentine's Day and remember that God is always with you, and that He loves you. I gotta go...I have a bag of chocolate to get through and a lot of paper to cut before Feb. 14!

An Ode to My iPod: Part 2

iPod, you were in your plastic baggy I stared at you as I cleaned the kitchen How broken you were! The rice could not fix you, it seemed A friend suggested I get a new one Replace you, dear iPod? I had no other choice! You've been with me through a lot, dear iPod Through my first couple basketball games Through that terrible thunderstorm I listened to you during my sad times I played you when I was happy Your music reminded me of good memories Why, wonderful iPod, why did I let you get wet? It was such an innocent thunderstorm I held you as I listened to your song But was it for the last time? I listened to you as we drove long miles Your ability to store music astounds me So many memories are in those songs! My little iPod, you played as we grouted the porch You were beside me in the late nights when I couldn't sleep You lie on my pillow, supplying me with audio as I draw Dear little iPod, your music kept me running I guess I shall have to say good-bye,...

Books, Books, Books...

Hi, Page Turner here! Okay, so if the start of this high school year as been anything, it has  not  been boring due to lack of books to read. Here's a list of my favorite books, (in no particular order) that I've read since August!     1. "Bud, Not Buddy." This is book filled with humor and pathos and narrated by a ten-year old street-savvy kid in the Great Depression. After loosing his mom when he was six, he is moved to an orphanage. After a series of events, he finds himself alone on the road. But Bud has a secret--he thinks he knows who is father is, and he sets out to find him. This heart-warming story shows the heart of young boy, the mind of a hardened man, and the importance of family. 8/10! 2. "City of Ember Trilogy" Okay, so actually it's a quartet, but I've never liked the "Prophet of Yunwood" anyway. This series follows the events after a devastating world war that caused fire, starvation, and disease; a war that nearly wiped...

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Book 1

Hi, all! Page Turner here! I hope you are having a great summer! I like to read a lot, and one of my very favorite books is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. While a sad book, it is one of those works of literature that you feel has profoundly changed your life. I hope you enjoy this first review, and read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas  sometime this summer!                                              The Boy in the Striped Pajamas--A Review                 The horrible events of the past seem like horrors that will never be repeated in the present. After all, the world must have learned its lesson concerning different atrocities. People join in with author John Boyne as he writes,“Of course all this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever h...
