First Movie Review of 2016

Hi, Page Turner here! I can't believe it's 2016! Anyway, here's a short and sweet version of my movie reviews for the last few movies in 2015....(beware of spoilers!)
War Room: War Room is about a couple who's entire marriage is falling apart. They don't see each other ever, and when they do, they constantly fight. Their daughter is feeling neglected and although the wife would claim that God is prevalent in their home, He is no where to be found. All of that changes when the wife meets a sweet, yet feisty, old woman with a heart exploding with passion for God. I love this movie because it shows how strongly God uses prayer, the importance of a relationship with Him, and how to seek Him. Four and a half stars!
Minions: Okay, so I know a lot of people like Despicable Me. So do I, but I would suggest you skip its slap-stick counter part. It's not a bad movie, but it's not really that great either. It's got a little bit of a moral to the story, but not much, and the plot goes everywhere. Minions seems like an excuse to make people laugh at these crude, yet sweet, banana-loving minions. Not horrible, but I'd skip it if there's anything else to watch. One star and a half stars.
Pan: Okay, I'm going to admit that this is one of my favorite movies ever! Pan is about a brave, loyal orphan boy who gets kidnapped by pirates. The pirates steal children to work in their mines in a fantastical world called Neverland, and the entire project is headed by the notorious (and deranged) pirate named Blackbeard. When accused of lying, Pan is sentenced to death where he reveals that he may be the Chosen One, a boy a native story prophesies will free Neverland. Teaming up with a savvy miner named James Hook and the native warrior Tiger Lily, Pan must learn if he really is brave enough after all. Four and a Half Stars!
Star Wars: the Force Awakens: Ahhhhh!!!! Best movie ever! Thirty years after the defeat of the Empire, the First Order rises up to once again take take tyrannical control over the galaxy. Finn, a stormtrooper, finds himself unable to harm anyone, despite his training. Teaming up with Resistance fighter Po, he escapes from the First Order headquarters and crash-lands on Jakku, where he meets Rae, a tough scavenger with a troubled past. That's all I can tell! Seriously, if you haven't seen the movie yet and you're reading this to see if you'll like it: don't. Just go see it. You'll like it--I promise.
Anyway, those are the last 2015 movies. Now it's 2016. Remember, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The years pass by and bring change, but God will never change. Hold on to that promise this year and remember how much He loves you!

Gilligan: the Mind Reader

I love the show "Gilligan's Island." In this old TV comedy, seven castaways are stranded on an island and are constantly looking for a way off--but poor, awkward Gilligan always messes it up. Once on the show, Gilligan finds a bush with beans that enable him to read others minds. How cool would that be! I mean, forget conversation barriers, awkwardness, finding the right words to say, etc, etc. Or is it? By the end of the show, the entire group was pitted against each other, for everyone could read each others thoughts. Thoughts are supposed to be hidden from others. Even though we are supposed to take every thought captive to Christ, I know I struggle. Ugly things pop into our minds--who would want to see that?  In science fiction, mind reading has always been seen as fascinating, bizarre, and a gift. In Gilligan's Island, the Professor admits that he thought it would create world peace. Hah. But the truth is, Someone knows every thought you've ever thunk, and w

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Hi, I'm Paige Turner, and I'm back for the Christmas season. I'm looking forward to writing more on my blog and also celebrating one of my favorite times of the year! Christmas can be an exciting, cozy, comforting time, but it can also be filled with stress, doubt, and sadness as we think of those we miss. Wherever you are this Christmas season, I pray that you'll find peace in our Savior--something that we all need to be reminded of, including me. :) Christmas can also be an exciting time, full of joy--even during stress and sadness, a deeper kind of joy--about Jesus, our Healer and King.I'm looking forward to celebrating love, family (while eating some delicious food), but most importantly, Jesus, Immanuel, which means, "God with us." Merry Christmas!                                                                                     See you soon,

No Strings Attatched

"I've got no strings to hold me down, to make me fret, to make me frown!" sang little Pinocchio as he danced glibly around the stage, string-less and worry-less, as the other puppets look sadly on, connected by strings like true marionettes. Maybe you recognize this scene from the 1945 Disney Pinocchio movie. For some reason, that made me think about our strings. I think we pride ourselves to be like Pinocchio: chipper, happy, and totally independent (although not quite as wooden.) Well, in reality, we are totally dependent on God. Our talents, our future, our past, our present, and our circumstances are all in the hand's of God. Sure, our decisions change things, but God's in control; nothing we do happens without Him planning it. Good grief, we don't even control our body! You can't tell your cells to burn glucose to give you energy, or your heart to beat, or your stomach juices to digest the food. (Say it with me, eww . Very good.) But God looks after u
