Who is the Best Avenger?

Hey, hey, hey! It's me again. Monday isn't the best of days, so I'd like to let off some steam by revisiting one of my favorite things to do: debate about movies. Oh, yeah. Today's topic? Who is the best Avenger? (Yeah, uh oh. This could conversation could get heated :) The following post is my personal opinion and I'd love to hear yours in the comments!
Okay, so we've got, what, like, 10 Avengers now? Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Spiderman, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch...I'm leaving out a few, but you get the gist. I'm going to just focus on the original: Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk. Now, pretty much all of these guys are pretty cool. Natasha's like a secret agent/karate fighter, the Hulk can turn green and smash buildings, Iron Man's like a techno Superman, Thor can, well, control lightning, Hawkeye's Avenger's version of Katnis, and Captain America's got the best shield EVER. But who comes out on top, in my (humble) opinion? If you guessed the Cap', then you're correct. But why, you may ask? What makes the dude with the biceps and Frisbee better than the guy who morphs into a ginormous green monster and crushes buildings? Or the guy who can shoot rockets out of his hands? Or the secret agent on a motorcycle? Or the awesome hunter with 40 arrows per shot? (deep breath) or the Lord of the Ring's elf-type of guy who lives on another planet, harnesses lightning, and has an awesome accent? What makes the Frisbee dude my favorite? Well let's see...
Steve Rogers lived in War World II. He was a great guy: compassionate, funny, brave. But the poor kid was only about five foot three and 70 pounds. Everybody else was going into the army, but he was kept behind. Steve's greatest dream was to fight for his country, which seemed unlikely until one day. After volunteering, Steve is given a serum that makes him a hero---and the unstoppable force of the army. After a dangerous investigation, Captain America, as Steve Rogers is now called, finds himself against an evil supervillain. In a dramatic climax, Captain America gives up his life to ensure that the world is safe. Well, almost gives up his life. Captain America is actually sealed up in ice, preserved until 50 years later, where he is found, 'awaking' to a very different world. As he tries to make sense of everything, Captain America teams up with S.H.I.E.L.D. to destroy the evil and mayhem Thor's brother Loki is planning for earth, courageously fighting with the Avengers and risking his life. When Hydra (the evil force he was fighting in the 1940s) returns, Captain America must choose to do what is right, even if it would cost him his job, his friendships, and his life. He heroically fights against the clock to bring Hydra down. The real kicker, however, comes when the masked villain he's been fighting turns out to be his best friend, Buckey. He allows Buckey to beat him up, declaring that he'll never fight his friend. This, in turn, saves Buckey, who realizes who Captain America is and what he's done. Anyway, after that, the Cap' teams up with Avengers again, and helps save the world from Hydra, (again), while helping his friends battle against their own past while facing his future.
Captain America is physically a hero. He saves people, he has a cool name, and the world's most awesome shield. But that's not why I think Captain America's the best. After being stuck in ice for a few decades, Captain America emerges into a world that has changed. Instead of buckling under pressure and changing with the world, Captain America realizes somethings---like faith in God, courage, and integrity---are timeless. When Black Widow tries to stop him from chasing after Thor and Loki by saying, "Sit this one out, Cap', they're practically gods," he simply looks at her, grabs his shield, and says, "There's only one God, ma'am, and I'm pretty sure He doesn't dress like that." Captain America holds fast to what he knows the Bible says is true, even if it makes him unpopular, puts him in pain, or causes a "civil war". (Oh yeah, I just slipped that in.) I'm not saying that a made-up comic book hero should be our model, though; Jesus Christ should be. I think that there's a good lesson to learn to learn from this, however: we can't just deny Jesus because it's not 'cool' or because everyone else has 'moved on.' Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That's why I think Captain America is so awesome. He doesn't sway from what is right, and that's what makes a hero a hero.
So guys, what are your thoughts? I'm in cross country, and as we were warming up for a run, I heard some of the guys discussing which Avenger would win a fight. (I won't mention any names but you know who you are) I'd like to submit Captain America as the winner. The Hulk might get all angry and crush everything, but he's not invincible and sometimes his blind rage and fury can end up in the wrong spot. Iron Man's suit can malfunction, or his ego can sometimes trip up this hero. Hawk Eye's arrows aren't unlimited, and Black Widow doesn't have a shield, making her a target. Thor doesn't always get along with others, and he can find it hard to cope with life on earth. They've all got chinks in their armor, including Captain America. He can't fly like Iron Man, harness lightning, do karate, smash buildings, or shoot arrows with stunning accuracy. Together, however, the Avengers help each other and support each other, making a formidable team. Captain America isn't jut a good soldier, however: he's also a hero who'd do anything to save someone, even if it means dying in the process.
So, to conclude, Captain America's a pretty cool comic book character with mad Frisbee skills, integrity, and an awesome lesson in sticking to what the Bible says is right, even when everyone else says your wrong. Thankfully, we don't serve a comic book character. No matter how neat Captain America is, he's just made up, just a product of an author's imagination. The world won't collapse because someone disagrees about who the best Avenger is. Captain America is just a character played by an actor. If the world was in danger, Captain America would still just be drawing on a page.

Thankfully for us, God is real. He made the world, the grass, the trees, us. He made the universe, with its nebulas, galaxies, stars, and beautiful colors. He made color! God made the people who created comics. He created you. He knows what you like to do, what you've done today, and what you'll do tomorrow. As we celebrate on Easter: He's alive! God isn't just a force that created the world, or even sometimes looks down at us. He is real and He is ruling. Our God is real, and He's amazing. He made the world, and He has saved me from my sin. We aren't left on our own to have the courage to not compromise. Jesus gives us the faith and courage to follow Him, 'cause it can be pretty scary out there! He loves us and gives us the strength.
Thanks for reading this long post! Who is your favorite Avenger? Page Turner, over and out!

An Ode to My iPod: Part 2

iPod, you were in your plastic baggy I stared at you as I cleaned the kitchen How broken you were! The rice could not fix you, it seemed A friend suggested I get a new one Replace you, dear iPod? I had no other choice! You've been with me through a lot, dear iPod Through my first couple basketball games Through that terrible thunderstorm I listened to you during my sad times I played you when I was happy Your music reminded me of good memories Why, wonderful iPod, why did I let you get wet? It was such an innocent thunderstorm I held you as I listened to your song But was it for the last time? I listened to you as we drove long miles Your ability to store music astounds me So many memories are in those songs! My little iPod, you played as we grouted the porch You were beside me in the late nights when I couldn't sleep You lie on my pillow, supplying me with audio as I draw Dear little iPod, your music kept me running I guess I shall have to say good-bye,...

The Giver

Hi, Page Turner here again! I am here again to write about my next book on the 30 day journey of 15 Fiction Books Every Person Should Read (a book every two days). I think that books are a blessing God has given us to love Him more, be creative, and be inspired. I love reading, and hope you enjoy these books!       Yesterday's book was  The Boy in the Striped Pajamas . Today, I'll be writing about  The Giver.  I read this book in 9th grade and was completely immersed in Jonas' world. While I understood the deeper allegory behind this deeply-stirring book, it wasn't until this year that God fully connected the dots I had read in  The Giver.   This book has deeply affected my life-- I hope you enjoy this book review, and give  The Giver  a try sometime this summer!                                               ...

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Book 1

Hi, all! Page Turner here! I hope you are having a great summer! I like to read a lot, and one of my very favorite books is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. While a sad book, it is one of those works of literature that you feel has profoundly changed your life. I hope you enjoy this first review, and read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas  sometime this summer!                                              The Boy in the Striped Pajamas--A Review                 The horrible events of the past seem like horrors that will never be repeated in the present. After all, the world must have learned its lesson concerning different atrocities. People join in with author John Boyne as he writes,“Of course all this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever h...
